Approved: RL-Smith/9/2024 Criminal Investigations (CRIJ 2314) CREDIT 3 Semester Credit Hours (3 hours lecture, 0 hours lab) MODE OF INSTRUCTION Face to Face PREREQUISITE/CO-REQUISITE: None COURSE DESCRIPTION This course is the study of Criminal Investigative theory, the collection and preservation of evidence, the sources of information, interview and interrogation, uses of forensic sciences, case and trial preparation. COURSE OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to Define the goals and objectives of criminal investigation. Demonstrate ability to conduct proper crime scene investigations. Organize the criminal case including field notes, reports, and crime scene. Define the responsibilities of law enforcement and constitutional restraints. Analyze landmark supreme court cases that impacts law enforcement. Demonstrate understanding of the daily functioning of the criminal justice system. Assess how Law enforcement effects society. Starfish is used to help you be a successful student at LIT. ADDITIONAL COURSE POLICIES/INFORMATION All assignments are due as scheduled. Late or incomplete assignments will be discussed on a case-by-case basis (ex. medical situation such as hospitalization).
