Approved: Initials/date Web Design II (IMED 2315) CREDIT 3 Semester Credit Hours (2 hours lecture, 2 hours lab) MODE OF INSTRUCTION Online PREREQUISITE/CO-REQUISITE: There are no Prerequisite/Co-requisites for this course. COURSE DESCRIPTION This course focuses on using advanced HTML and CSS to solve complex design problems. JavaScript will be introduced as an additional tool to aid in front end design. COURSE OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to: • Write, code, publish and maintain a dynamic web site with database driven content using current web technology • Create secure websites • Analyze rhetorical processes with different media modes on the web • Understand strategies for coding and conveyance. STUDENT EXPECTED TIME REQUIREMENT For every hour in class (or unit of credit), students should expect to spend at least two to three hours per week studying and completing assignments. For a 3-credit-hour class, students should prepare to allocate approximately six to nine hours per week outside of class in a 16- week session OR approximately twelve to eighteen hours in an 8-week session. Online/Hybrid students should expect to spend at least as much time on this course as in the traditional, face-to-face class. DROP POLICY If you wish to drop a course, you are responsible for initiating and completing the drop process. If you stop coming to class and fail to drop the course, you will earn an “F” in the course. AI STATEMENT Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) recognizes the recent advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI), such as ChatGPT, have changed the landscape of many career disciplines and will impact many students in and out of the classroom. To prepare students for their selected careers, LIT desires to guide students in the ethical use of these technologies and incorporate AI into the classroom instruction and assignments appropriately. Appropriate use of these technologies is at the discretion of the instructor. Students are reminded that all submitted work must be their own original work unless otherwise specified. Students should contact their instructor with any questions as to the acceptable use of AI/ChatGPT in their courses. Submissions of AI generated or assisted material will be permitted only when expressly indicated by. Permissible use of AI-generated or AI-assisted material must also be properly cited. Any use without permission and citation is considered a form of academic dishonesty and will be processed as such following the guidelines for Academic Dishonesty in the Student Handbook. STARFISH LIT utilizes an early alert system called Starfish. Throughout the semester, you may receive emails from Starfish regarding your course grades, attendance, or academic performance. Faculty members record student attendance, raise flags and kudos to express concern or give praise, and you can make an appointment with faculty and staff all through the Starfish home page. You can also login to Blackboard or MyLIT and click on the Starfish link to view academic alerts and detailed information. It is the responsibility of the student to pay attention to these emails and information in Starfish and consider taking the recommended actions. Starfish is used to help you be a successful student at LIT. ADDITIONAL COURSE POLICIES/INFORMATION 1. Students should log onto Blackboard and access this course at least 3 times a week to keep on track with assignments. And do the assignments by each due date so it does not become overwhelming to catch up. 2. Cheating of any kind will not be tolerated. 3. Internet Usage – Students are expected to use proper net etiquette while participating in course emails, assignment submissions, and online discussions. 4. Students should turn assignments in by the posted due date and time. 5. If you wish to drop a course, the student is responsible for initiating and completing the drop process before the date stated in the LIT Academic Calendar. If you stop coming to class and fail to drop the course, you will earn an ‘F’ in the course. 6. Grades will be posted under the Grades icon on the class gradebook. All grades are automatically graded and posted. If you see a missing grade, please email me to call it to my attention so I can correct it after the initial 24 hours of completing the assignment. 7. Be sure to include specific details and your section number, which chapter, assignment, and question you are working on. It is always extra helpful if you can include screenshots so I can see what you are referring to. 8. All assignments will be completed using the link in Blackboard. Assignments CANNOT be submitted via email. All due dates will be posted in Blackboard with each assignment. 9. ABSOLUTELY NO ASSIGNMENTS, EXAMS, PROJECTS OR TESTS WILL BE REOPENED. I strongly encourage you to complete all work well in advance of the Due Date, so you don’t miss anything. The entire course is available from day 1, except for the Midterm and the Final Exam Project. 10. It is not my practice to give Incompletes, except for extreme circumstances and you have successfully completed at least 90% of the course. Please see the chart below for important drop/withdrawal dates for this semester. This class is a Full-Term class.
