COURSE DESCRIPTION A study of relations and functions, inequalities, algebraic expressions and equations (absolute value, polynomial, radical, rational), with a special emphasis on linear and quadratic expressions and equations. COURSE OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to 1. Define, represent, and perform operations on real and complex numbers. 2. Recognize, understand, and analyze features of a function. 3. Recognize and use algebraic (field) properties, concepts, procedures (including factoring), and algorithms to combine, transform, and evaluate absolute value, polynomial, radical, and rational expressions. 4. Identify and solve absolute value, polynomial, radical, and rational equations. 5. Identify and solve absolute value and linear inequalities. 6. Model, interpret, and justify mathematical ideas and concepts using multiple representations. 7. Starfish is used to help you be a successful student at LIT. ADDITIONAL COURSE POLICIES/INFORMATION 1. Disruptive or disrespectful behavior of any kind during class will not be tolerated. If disrespectful behavior becomes an issue at any time, you will be asked to leave and will be counted absent. 2. All cellphones and other electronic devices should be turned off during class. Failure to do so may result in an absence. During exams, phones should not even be visible! 3. No food or drinks during class. 4. Communication is key.
